13 Nonprofits in One Day
High Plains Middle School students split into 13 groups and spent one day volunteering alongside Otter Products employees at nonprofits across Northern Colorado.
Middle schoolers are amazing. Not only are they eager to grow and learn — they are eager to serve and give back to their communities. The middle school students at High Plains School in Loveland, Colorado, participated in the school’s second annual Day of Service: a single powerful day where students spread out across 13 nonprofits in Northern Colorado to put their time and talent to work. Teacher Janelle Joers received an OtterCares Impact Grant to help bring the 2021 Day of Service to life, and she incorporated Project Heart into her classes to prepare students for the experience.
Before the day arrived, students crafted personal mission statements focused on how they wanted to give back to their communities and world. Then, equipped with passion and enthusiasm, they were joined by Otter Products employees who volunteered alongside them — a powerful reminder that giving back is a lifelong practice. It was a day of connection, purpose, and proof that when young people are given the opportunity to serve, extraordinary things happen.
