International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900’s, when widespread oppression and inequality ignited a powerful movement of women raising their voices and taking action for change.

When Malala Yousafzai was banned from school at age 11, she didn’t stop learning — she started fighting. This activity introduces students to her extraordinary story and the Malala Fund’s mission to ensure every girl receives 12 years of free, quality education. From Girls Who Code to Solar Sister to Women’s World Banking, students also discover the inspiring ecosystem of organizations working every day to close the gap and open doors for women and girls around the world.

The challenge is personal: How will you use your Time, Talent, and Treasure to celebrate International Women’s Day and support the women and girls in your community — or across the globe? Using the Design Thinking Process, students identify a need they care about and build a real plan of action. Because the next Malala might be sitting in your classroom right now, and she deserves a world that’s ready for her.
