Students will define philanthropy, identify ways they can give using their time and talents, reflect on personal helping behaviors, and practice simple acts of giving that strengthen classroom and community connections.

Lesson Plan: Heart Helpers

Introduces philanthropy through visuals, guided discussion, and interactive prompts. Includes vocabulary development (philanthropy, philanthropist, helpful, caring, friendly, fair, brave and giving), a short video, reflection questions, and activity directions, reinforcing students' understanding of giving, empathy, and their identity as community helpers.

Covers key vocabulary including philanthropy and philanthropist, with clear definitions and examples of giving. Includes a short video, discussion prompts, and guided reflection questions. Reinforces empathy, kindness, and students' understanding of how they can help others in their classroom and community.

Activity: I Am a Philanthropist

Students complete the "I Am a Philanthropist" worksheet by reflecting on key traits like helpfulness, kindness, and fairness. As each trait is discussed, students identify and circle qualities they see in themselves, then create a self-portrait to represent their identity as a giver.

Activity: Phil-An-Thro-Py Picture Cards

Picture-card activity breaking "philanthropy" into four syllable chunks (Phil-An-Thro-Py) using visual picture clues. Students work together to decode and practice saying the word, building vocabulary confidence before key concepts are introduced.
